Submarine cable to Norway - Skagerrak 4
Together with Statnett – the transmission system operator in Norway – Energinet.dk has decided to expand the interconnection between Denmark and Norway with a new cable, Skagerrak 4.

Purpose
The expansion is necessary in order to integrate more wind power into the Danish power system and to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the electricity market.

Installation
The Skagerrak 4 interconnection consists of two substations – one in Kristiansand in Norway and one at Tjele in Denmark, where Energinet.dk already owns the land that is needed to expand the substation. The land cables on the Danish side will be approx. 90 km, while the submarine cable will be approx. 130 km.

Commissioning
The plan is for the new interconnection to be commissioned by the end of 2014.

Price
The total budget for the installation is about DKK 2.8 billion, of which the Danish investment is expected to amount to some DKK 1.5 billion.
