Regulating power
Regulating power is production capacity or consumption offered by the market players to Energinet.dk during the actual day of operation. In principle, the balance responsible player forwards bids for upward and downward regulation stating the volume offered (MW) and the price of activating the power (DKK/MWh).
Energinet.dk forwards the Danish regulating power bids to NOIS (Nordic Operation Information System), which is a common Nordic list including bids from Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish players. Should it be neccessary to regulate the power in the Nordic countries, the most advantageous bid placed on the common list will be activated, however, giving due consideration to possible restrictions in the interconnections between the countries.
No matter whether the necessity to regulate power occurs in Denmark or in any other Nordic country, Energinet.dk will always be responsible for activating the Danish regulating bids. When it is necessary to upregulate, Energinet.dk buys the volume needed from the balance responsible party who has forwarded the upregulating bids placed at the lowest price. And when downregulation is necessary, Energinet.dk sells the surplus volume to the balance responsible party who has placed downregulating bids at the highest price. Regulating power and balancing power are priced at marginal prices - for more information please see market regulation C2 at the right-hand menu.
