Energinet.dk R&D
Energinet.dk is obliged to launch a number of R&D projects with a view to maintaining the high level of security of supply and developing the electricity and natural gas system for the benefit of society, the environment and customers.

Energinet.dk’s internal R&D is organised under the name of ForskIN and is financed by Energinet.dk’s normal electricity and gas tariffs. The funding available varies from one year to the next. Projects are approved by the management of Energinet.dk. Moreover, Energinet.dk is involved in a variety of reporting, which is also described below.
R&D projects are undertaken by the individual departments in Energinet.dk and are coordinated by an interdisciplinary internal team.

R&D into electricity and gas markets
Energinet.dk supports market developments in both the electricity and the gas sector. Energinet.dk takes part in a number of international projects, for example under the auspices of the IEA, the EU and Nordel, all aimed at improving the electricity and natural gas markets.

R&D into the electricity transmission grid
Research is undertaken by Energinet.dk in connection with the operation, maintenance and expansion of the high-voltage grid. The work is often carried out in collaboration with the regional transmission companies and the grid companies.

R&D into the gas transmission grid
Energinet.dk owns the Danish natural gas transmission system and the international interconnections. Research is undertaken by Energinet.dk in connection with the operation, maintenance and expansion of the natural gas transmission grid.

R&D into planning
Energinet.dk is responsible for planning the electricity and natural gas transmission grids of the future. In this context, Energinet.dk’s planning department is involved in considerable R&D and reporting activities. The work is often carried out with reference to international organisations such as the IEA, the EU, ENTSO-E, Cigré and Eurelectric.
