Calorific value
Energinet.dk measures the composition of the natural gas to determine its calorific value.

Gas quality for settlement
The computation of energy supplied takes into account regional differences in gas composition owing to varying operational supply conditions.

Energinet.dk provides information about gas qualities for settlement purposes at designated points in the transmission grid. From January 2006, the calculations also include the monthly CO2 emission factor applying to the entire Danish natural gas grid. The CO2 emission factor is calculated on the basis of the net calorific value (nedre brændværdi in Danish) of the gas and assuming 100 per cent combustion.

The gross calorific value (øvre brændværdi in Danish) is used for calculating the amounts of energy transported, whereas the density is used for conversion between mass and volume.

The monthly average gross calorific values and densities from Energinet.dk's meter and regulator stations are shown below. For the time being, the monthly values are only available in Danish:

The distribution companies and Energinet.dk use the monthly calorific values in their monthly energy calculations and allocation, whereas the monthly energy calculations are based on the calorific values of the relevant months. From February 1st 2010 Energinet.dk will send out last gas days Calorific Values. These are used for calculation of the current data.

The gas qualities represent monthly averages of the actually measured values and may vary from the gas qualities used for settlement of volumes consumed. Further information can be obtained from the gas suppliers. Please contact your local distribution company for details on the station that supplies you with natural gas.
