Gas safety
Gas safety is a high priority for Energinet.dk, and in order to maintain a high safety level we continually inspect the transmission system in various ways.

Gas safety is very important to Energinet.dk. Even though the pipelines are made of thick-walled steel, have a diameter between 320 and 760 mm and are placed at least one metre below ground, we do our utmost to ensure a very high safety level in and around our gas transmission network.

To ensure that the activities and digging works that are carried out along the pipelines are in conformity with current rules, we regularly inspect the areas involved - by aeroplane, by car and on foot. Our activities primarily revolve around the counselling of municipalities, landowners, contractors and other parties which are to conduct work or planning activities within the safety zone established around the pipelines.

Preventative maintenance and control
Our gas engineers continuously monitor the technical condition of our gas pipelines and installations. In addition, all preventative maintenance activities are calendar controlled to provide the best possible overview of coming maintenance tasks and give a status of the activities already performed.
In collaboration with external suppliers we regularly check the inside and outside of our pipelines to gain a high-level view of their physical condition. Inside inspection is called 'pigging', while outside inspection is called 'survey'.
