Metering
The distribution companies meter all the consumers' purchases and use of natural gas in Denmark.

There are two types of metered consumers: daily metered consumers (DM consumers) and non-daily metered consumers (nDM consumers).

Energinet.dk sums up the metered data of the DM consumers on an hourly basis from the information given by the distribution companies.

The nDM consumers report their actual usage of natural gas on a monthly or yearly basis. This is done by sending in a meter reading card, typing in or otherwise communicating the use to the distribution companies. Energinet.dk uses the sum of data from DM and nDM consumers to allocate the shippers' hourly amounts. The part used by the nDM consumers is then calculated as the difference (or residual) between the natural gas supplied to the distribution area and the amount used by the DM consumers.
