Shippers with excess or shortage of balancing margin in the transmission system can trade balancing margin bilaterally in the Danish transmission system by using the BTF. The BTF may be used for balancing margin received together with exit zone capacity as well as balancing margin purchased as part of an agreement on balancing service or via the BTF.

The BTF enables Energinet.dk to support balancing margin deals in units of days, weeks, months and years. The balancing margin allocated at purchases of exit zone capacity as well as the balancing margin purchased as part of balancing service contracts can be transferred via the facility.

Advertisements for purchase or sale of balancing margin via the BTF can be inserted on Energinet.dk's Bulletin Board.

Use of Energinet.dk's BTF is free of charge. 

The transfer of balancing margin from one shipper to another is effectuated when Energinet.dk's registrates the transferring shipper's accumulated balancing margin as reduced and the receiving shipper's balancing margin as increased with the size of the transferred balancing margin.

The transferring shipper remains liable vis-à-vis Energinet.dk. Hence, the receiving shipper's payment for the balancing margin only concerns the two shippers involved in the transfer.

Energinet.dk is not involved in the deal itself, herein included pricing and terms and conditions applying to the gas quantities traded.

Ordering transfer of balancing service
You can order transfer of balancing service in two ways:

1. Online booking procedure
If you wish to use the online booking procedure you need to sign an online access agreement. The agreement is appendix 5 to Rules for Gas Transport. You can download the agreement at the bottom of this page.

Each shipper must register one or several users through Energinet.dk online. Energinet.dk then provides them with separate or combined authorisations relating to the extend of access needed in the online system.
 
As a shipper you need to make the balancing service order using the online booking procedure before 13:00 the day before the first day of the period in which you need the balancing service.

2. Manual procedure
Shippers can also transfer the balancing service manually. This is done by sending a balancing service order to Energinet.dk by emailto anmodning@energinet.dk, as an attached document.

If you use his procedure the order must be received at Energinet.dk 4 banking days before the balancing service agreement starts.

If Energinet.dk receives the BTF order before 09.00 on a banking day we will try to process it before 17.00 two banking days later. Energinet.dk sends an order confirmation by e-mail if the ordered capacity is available and the rules of Rules for Gas Transport are followed.
