In the light of the coming EU-wide network codes on balancing, the report primarily discusses whether Energinet.dk should trade gas for balancing on NordPool Gas or on a so called balancing platform. A balancing platform would require Energinet.dk as a counterpart in all trades.
Since the report was drafted in March 2011, it does not take Energinet.dk’s changes of the balancing rules as of 1 October 2011 or ACER’s updated Draft Framework Guidelines into account, but the report still has a significant relevance.
