Natural gas as a supplement to renewable energy
In spite of massive focus on renewable energy, Energinet.dk expects that Denmark will need considerable amounts of energy from non-renewable energy sources in a long transition period towards the goal of independence from fossil fuels.

Denmark will therefore need natural gas for many years to come to supply 320,000 natural gas consumers and enterprises and to produce electricity and heat at CHP plants. Moreover, energy supply diversity is important so that, as a society, we have various energy sources and do not depend on one or two single energy sources such as oil or coal.
Natural gas is an obvious fuel as a supplement to renewable energy as combustion emits considerably less CO2 than coal burning.
At the same time, natural gas turbines can be activated quickly (from 0 to operation) to ensure electricity supply when there is no wind.
