Strategy
In its latest strategy plan, Energinet.dk focuses on the integration of renewable energy and the future security of natural gas supply.

Increased use of electricity in the heating and transport sectors in combination with more flexible electricity consumption is to contribute to a sharp increase in the use of renewable energy, including large amounts of wind power, and a gradual phasing-out of fossil fuels. At the same time, the expansion of the power infrastructure – both nationally and internationally – will also play an important role in the future integration of renewable energy.

Regarding natural gas, the biggest challenge will be the accessibility of gas. Energinet.dk expects that energy from non-renewable energy sources will be required for many more years to come. Natural gas is an obvious fuel as a supplement to renewable energy, mainly because of relatively low CO2 emissions. However, in the near future, Denmark will no longer be self-sufficient in gas from the Danish part of the North Sea. That is why Energinet.dk is in the process of establishing a new infrastructure that will ensure continued access to gas.

Strategy Plan 2008 is the second edition of the long-term strategy plan submitted by our Supervisory Board to the Climate and Energy Minister every other year. The strategy plan is based on the coherent and holistic planning undertaken by Energinet.dk and documented in annual transmission and system plans.

The strategy plan has been presented to Energinet.dk’s stakeholder forum for comments, and the forum has approved the contents.

Energinet.dk has given an account of the strategic environmental assessments (SEAs) related to the topics described in the strategy plan.
