Environmental impact statements for electricity

19 July 2009

Each year in March Energinet.dk publishes environmental impact statements for the electricity supplied to the distribution grids in Eastern and Western Denmark in the past year.

The environmental impact statements describe the environmental impacts caused by the supply of one kWh of average electricity. The environmental impact statement covers average electricity supplies from the transmission grid for which reason losses in the transmission grid are included. Losses in the distribution grid must be included in the form of local values or an average loss of 5 per cent.

Energinet.dk collects information and calculates the environmental impact statements for electricity supplied within the system operation areas. As there is no electric link between Eastern and Western Denmark an overall environmental impact statement cannot be prepared for the entire country. Therefore, two environmental impact statements are prepared, one for Eastern Denmark and one for Western Denmark. An overall environmental impact statement for the whole of Denmark will be prepared when the Great Belt Link has been established in 2010.

Data basis and specification method

Details about data basis, specification method, examples of inclusion of grid loss, environmental impact statements and key figures for Eastern and Western Denmark can be found below.
Energinet.dk directs the attention to the fact that data on eg generation of electricity, exchange with neighbouring countries and similar system data will be settled in January for the previous year. Subsequently, minor adjustments of these data may take place. Normally, these minor adjustments will be unessential in relation to the annual Environmental report and environmental impact statement. Only in case of material changes, new calculation will be made.

Auditor's Report

The environmental impact statements are endorsed by the auditor (only available in Danish). The figures on the Electricity Label are based on data from the environmental impact statement and as such they are included by the audit reports.

More on environment

Every year Energinet.dk publishes an environmental report with statements of all environmental impacts of electricity and CHP generation in Denmark.

The report contains environmental impact statements, electricity labels, a total specification of impacts from electricity and CHP generation in Denmark and a 10-year forecast. In the report you will also find all additional calculation documents.
