The GTF makes it possible for shippers to trade gas among each other. Before and during a gas day Energinet.dk is able to support deals to be transferred during a day.
The service is especially well-suited for shippers who have too large or too small quantities of gas in the transmission system and wish to change this at short notice, or just wish to make a good gas deal.

The service is also made for shippers who wish to deliver gas into the Danish transmission system and who have primarily purchased entry capacity or very little exit capacity. Moreover, the service is made for shippers who first and foremost deliver gas to distribution areas or to transit and who have therefore mainly purchased exit zone- and/or transit capacity.
In reality a gas quantity is transferred from one shipper to another by way of both shippers nominating the wanted gas quantity via Energinet.dk's GTF. If the transferring and the receiving shippers needs match each other Energinet.dk registers the desired gas amounts which will then be deducted from the transferring shipper and added to the receiving shipper’s quantities in the relevant period. The shippers will receive the usual nomination confirmations and daily energy balance statements after the end of the gas day.
Energinet.dk is not involved in the deal itself, herein included pricing and terms and conditions applying to the gas quantities traded. As of now the GTF is free of charge.
Advertisements for purchase or sale of gas can be inserted on Energinet.dk's Bulletin Board.
Procedure for using the GTF by example:
Shipper A and Shipper B have agreed to transfer gas on the gas day 2 February 2006. Shipper A transfers gas to Shipper B.
To use the GTF the two shippers have to exchange shipper-IDs. The shipper ID is a unique key sent from Energine.dk to the shipper by mail. In our example the shipper IDs are:
SHIPPERA and SHIPPERB. The two shipper IDs in unison form the correct contract ID and should be put together in the following way:
- GTF-SHIPPERA-TO-SHIPPERB (Shipper A: The shipper who transfers gas to B)
- GTF-SHIPPERB-FROM-SHIPPERA (Shipper B: The shipper who receives gas from A)
The IDs must be inserted into Energinet.dk's nomination tool in the right combination. Energinet.dk will advise the shipper about the right combination of the shipper IDs.
Furthermore, the GTF_point must be indicated.
Thus, the procedure is as follows: Shipper A adds the contract name SHIPPERA-TO-SHIPPERB to his nomination tool together with the point definition GTF_POINT and the 24 hour nominations with the quantities to be transferred.
In a similar manner Shipper B will add the contract name GTF- SHIPPERA-TO-SHIPPERB to his nomination tool together with the point definition GTF_POINT and the 24 hour nominations with the quantities to be exchanged.
All possible contract name combinations are recorded in Energinet.dk's IT system. The IT system containing the contract names is not set up to receive nominations but is able to handle the nominations if so required.
Energinet.dk then matches the quantities, and sends a nomination confirmation on the quantities to each shipper.
The nomination rules are described in the rules in Rules for Gas transport.
