Leaks may occur resulting in leaking of natural gas from pipelines or substations. Leakage may give a very laud and piercing or hissing noise when natural gas is forced out through the leak under high pressure.
Natural gas is non-toxic and immediately goes up into the air as it is lighter than air. However, the leaking natural gas can be ignited by a spark and cause a fire.
Experience shows that such accidents very seldom occur. But in the event of an accident, Energinet.dk in collaboration with the police and the fire brigade has made a number of emergency preparedness plans that are tested regularly.
Emergency drills may sometimes cause practical inconvenience, for instances in the form of noise. Nevertheless, we ask our neighbours for their kind understanding – even if drills are sometimes held at night.
