Gas quality

Energinet.dk's transmission system is supplied either directly from the North Sea via Dong's gas treatment plant at Nybro or from the two natural gas storage facilities at Lille Torup and Stenlille. The deliveries are regulated according to the current conditions and demand at any given time.

The gas quality is metered in the gas transmission system at:

  • Nybro (entry point from the North Sea)
  • Egtved (connection point in Mid Jutland)
  • Dragør near Copenhagen (exit point to Sweden)
  • Lille Torup (storage facility in Northern Jutland)
  • Stenlille (storage facility on Zealand)
  • Ellund (exit point to Germany)

Specifications

The specifications for the natural gas supplied to the Danish market are laid down by the Danish Safety Technology Authority and can be found in Section A, Appendix 1A of the Danish Gas Regulation. Natural gas received, transported and delivered in the Danish natural gas system under a transport contract must at all times comply with the Danish Gas Regulation and the quality specifications of the Rules for Gas Transport.

Supply situation

Normally, the Danish market is supplied with gas that always meets the Gas Regulation's wobbe index requirements in normal supply situations.

In the event that normal supplies from the North Sea are reduced temporarily or stopped, gas with a higher wobbe index may be led into the transmission system at Nybro. In such a supply situation, the wobbe index may be exceeded up to the Gas Regulation's limit for abnormal supply situations. This rarely happens (less than once a year), and in such situations, Energinet.dk informs all gas consumers whose gas-consuming equipment may be affected.
