About energy transmission

Energinet.dk owns, operates and develops the transmission systems for electricity and natural gas in Denmark.

The transmission systems consist of the main stations, lines/cables and pipelines which connect the production units with the distribution networks – the grids taking supplies to consumers.

As regards its gas activities, Energinet.dk owns the big transmission pipelines running from Nybro in western Jutland to Amager in Eastern Denmark and from the German border to Aalborg. Energinet.dk also owns the installations which meter and regulate the gas and send it into the gas distribution network. Finally, Energinet.dk owns the Lille Torup gas storage facility near Viborg in Jutland.

As regards its power-related activities, Energinet.dk owns the substations and the grid at the highest voltage level – 400 kV – as well as interconnections to Norway, Sweden and Germany. Energinet.dk also owns the cables between the mainland and the Horns Rev offshore wind farm and the submarine cables to the islands of Læsø and Bornholm.

The transmission grid at lower voltage levels is owned by the regional electric utilities, apart from the 132 kV grid in Northern Zealand which Energinet.dk took over from Dong Energy in 2008.
